August 2008

  • Security Functions - In order to keep up with the growing technologies, we will be spending many programming hours this month and next month upgrading the security of our code/databases. No noticeable changes in appearance of your sites may be noticed, but new security measures will be in place to better protect your site and our software against malicious intents.

  • We have found a stable, effective alternative for the rotator script for our Banners/Ad Zones plugin which will eliminate the issues with the clicking sound in IE permanently as well as the browsers History being filled up with each rotation (also an IE quirk).

    The downside for this new banner rotator script is all the clients who have chosen to customize the Banners template in the Visual Settings --> Edit HTML section will be adversely effected - Primarily, this is limited to those who have changed their codes to display double images of the top/bottom banner rotators. Applying a script to auto correct these customizations was not possible. Anyone who has opted to customize their site in this manner must follow the simple instructions we have provided below or your banner scripts will break when the new system is completely deployed (August 21st).

    How the system is currently working: We are keeping the old banner system working along side the new one for the until Aug 21st, without modifying the banner template.  This will give the Admins who are using a customized banner template time to transition to the new system rather than having it break immediately upon deployment of the new system.

    If you HAVE NOT made any changes to your banners template and only one banner appears in the top and bottom rotators you do not need to take any action and your templates as well as all ad zone codes throughout your site will automatically be updated on Aug.21st  to the new system.

    First, here is the code for people who HAVE NOT customized their banner templates but want to try the new system this week (remember this is optional - if you do not update your code manually, your site will remain on the old system for the next week and will be updated automatically after that time).

    Here's the code for "normal" single-banner folks:

    <div id="csys_ad_{$location}" style="width: 468px; height: 70px"></div>
    <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
    init_csys_ad('csys_ad_{$location}','{$location}');
    </script>

    That's all you need. You can tweak the "width: ...px; height: ...px" part as needed to customize the width/height of the banner region.

    OK, so now you want two banners? The code below if provided for those who have customized their banners for double banners. You can do something like this to get the banners to appear side-by-side:

    <table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" width="100%">
    <tr>
      <td width="50%" align="center"><div id="csys_ad_{$location}_left" style="width: 468px; height: 70px"></div></td>
      <td width="50%" align="center"><div id="csys_ad_{$location}_right" style="width: 468px; height: 70px"></div></td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
    init_csys_ad('csys_ad_{$location}_left','{$location}');
    init_csys_ad('csys_ad_{$location}_right','{$location}');
    </script>

    Please keep in mind, any changes made to the Visual Settings --> Edit HTML section are not supported by our staff. If you have banners displaying side by side, this is a customization that was made to your Visual Settings --> Edit HTML section after your site was originally constructed. If you still wish double banners and cannot get them to display correctly according to our instructions above, you can open a help desk ticket and request this customization be applied for you. A fee for administrative time may apply.

    We have also made a few layout changes to both the user and admin Banner areas to help clean it up and make it a bit more intuitive for users to add their banner images. These same tab style additions will be implemented throughout all areas of the control panel over the next several months in order to keep a clean, consistent look to your sites administration.

July 2008

  • Real Estate: Listings list page to be restructured so that it's a bit clearer, presents more relevant information, and looks a bit nicer.
Interactive Map feature: All of the listings in the category will be plotted on an interactive Google Map.  Once the Google Map is displayed, you can click on any of the red markers and the listing information will pop up in a bubble (the same info that's displayed in the listings list).  This also includes a link to view the full listing, just like you'd have in the listings list.

Listing details page: Spiffying up the layout a bit to make it cleaner and easier to read.  Also adding a tabset at the bottom to keep things neat and tidy.  By default it will show the Photos tab, but you can also select Map/Satellite, which shows a satellite map of the area, as well as Get Directions, Refer a Friend, and E-mail seller, each of which will be moved into a tab instead of having it on a separate page.

User listings page: It automatically inherits the new listings list format, and to that we'll be adding a color-coded status text, as well as edit and delete links. New renewal links will be placed for expired listings.

Admin listings page: Basically the same changes as the user listings page.

Real estate admin settings page: New option here which allows the admin to prevent users from creating listings. This hides the real estate icon and blocks access to the plugin for users if this option is enabled. This makes our software more friendly for Realtors which allows their listings to be exclusively placed on the site and no one else can list.

Google Maps API key setting:  Google Maps API requires that each domain have its own API key.  It's free and very easy to get your own key (just visit http://code.google.com/apis/maps/signup.html, tick the box, and enter your web site URL, and it spits out a key for your domain).  All Admins will need to do that, copy the key, and paste it into their settings (also available under the General Settings icon) in the "Google Maps API Key" field) in order to enable the fancy new mapping features. If this is not done, the "Interactive Map" feature (which plots multiple listings on the map) will not show up, and the "Map/Satellite" tab will only show a simplified Google Map.

Visual settings fonts and colors page: New "Headings" style which controls the appearance of the headings on the listings list and listings details pages (currently will only support real estate plugin, but other plugins will be adapting this feature as well as other aspects in the near future).  Allows you greater control of the listings pages color scheme and style to make it better fit the overall look of your personal sites.

User MLS Import option: This is only enabled for accounts who have paid for Unlimited listings. If they do not already have an Unlimited Listings option enabled, the tab instead reads 'Purchase Unlimited listings'. Please see the Real Estate chapter of our online guide for details about this new feature and its limitations.

May 2008

  • Forum Enhancements:
    Replaced the new thread and reply text links with buttons to help them stand out more.

    Display the New Post buttons if the user is not logged in and when clicked, it will ask them to please login first to create a new post.

    Added a 'subscribe to this thread' option to allow for email notifications when new posts to the thread are added.

April 2008

  • New NEWSLETTER Themes: A couple fresh looks for your newsletter plugin! Also the source code for the newsletter theme is available as a courtesy for advanced Admin's with HTML experience and who are confident of their skills to modify the existing code without error. Changes to this area are not supported by our staff, so please take care when editing.

  • New Hosting cPanel Theme: The x3 theme is the new front end look to cPanel 11, which we are now running on all our servers. The x3 theme is a complete and total redesign, including new features, a new look, and a simple interface for new users. The creators of cPanel will be will be removing support for the old theme shortly.

    If you encounter a "Getting Started Wizard", you can click the [No, I'm fine thanks] button to dismiss it and also click the "Don't show this again" to make it never come back.

    If you have bookmarked any areas from the old cPanel theme, the links will no longer work. You will need to use www.yourdomain.com/cpanel in order to login and create new bookmarks with updated urls which use the new theme.

    Also, please note that all sections of the cPanel each come with its own built in video tutorials. If you need help learning what a certain feature/function is for, simply view the tutorial to learn what that area is all about. However, not all cPanel features are supported on our servers, so some videos may be viewed for features we do not offer. Also, many cPanel features are for users with advanced knowledge and should not be used if you do not fully understand their function.

  • Site Map plugin: Pretty plain right now - the pages have no hierarchy (eg: there is no such thing as "sub-pages") so we can't logically group them, nor do the individual pages have any kind of description associated with them, so we can't provide any information about each page.  So essentially what you have is a big list of page titles. As always, we are willing to take improvement suggestions from admins, so perhaps over time this area can get ordered properly and allow admins to section them out easily.
